Nero And Leveraging Customer Loyalty

July 26th, 2006

Dr Supriya Biswas
Remember the Bhopal Gas Disaster. On the night of December 3, 1984, an explosion at Union Carbide’s pesticide plant caused 40 tonnes of lethal gas to seep into Bhopal. This explosion caused the immediate deaths of thousands of people and led to life long suffering for almost 120,000 survivors.

It’s hard being the boss, too!

July 17th, 2006

Rashmi Bansal

‘How bad is your boss’ asks Shyamal Majumdar, writing in Business Standard

From his piece, I learn there is a ‘bad boss’ contest running on www.workingamerica.org and it seems there is no shortage of horror stories on the subject.

There seem to be a huge number of bosses out there who either take all the credit for themselves, or who think you have no life outside work, or who give out too many tasks with impossible and constantly changing deadlines. There are stories about bosses who are pathological liars, or control freaks, or someone who has the IQ of an eraser. The boss also seems to be having the spine of a jellyfish — someone who would never stand up for you.

My Home Is Under 4 ft Water

July 10th, 2006

I am sorry to state that not all news is relayed correctly by the media. The dam at National Park (in north Mumbai) overflowed and the authorities were forced to open the dam. This resulted in our homes in Daulat Nagar in Borivali getting flooded.

Nobody has done anything about the Dahisar river in the last four days and our homes were underwater twice. But there are no reports in the media. Note that we Daulat Nagar are all staying in buildings. All the authorities keep talking about is the Mithi river. I wonder what they are planning now. Our homes were under 8 feet under water last year and this time its 4 feet under water. Will somebody shake the Government ?

Why Bengalis Are True Football Supporters

July 6th, 2006
When Brazil lost a couple of days back, ripples of sorrow spread far, across a couple of continents and people in Kolkata shed as much tears as did any Brazilian….the waterworks were all the more copious because the team that competes with Brazil (and comes a close second) for the share of people’s heart and support in Bengali land, Argentina, lost a bare 24 hours ago in a heart-wrenching quarter-final…..

Stranded At Home..

July 5th, 2006

The heavy rain and its impact is becoming somewhat painful now.

IMG_0556.JPG

Though I love rain and enjoy it always, now I am wishing to stop it as soon as possible. I am a new mother and my baby NISHTHA is just 24 days old. We needed to go to doctor for her routine check-up and to give her BCG dosages. But due to this Flood-like situation I couldn’t even dare to think go out of home. Read the rest of this entry »

House under water

July 5th, 2006

Again today, after a year, my house in Mumbai is submerged. Thankfully this time, my sister was at home and could remove important things from home. Most of it is lying with higher places neighbours and along the stairs. Still the furniture and walls are again ruined. All, except me (stuck in Pune) have reached the house, unlike last time, where everyone except mom reached after 3 days. Read the rest of this entry »
