Shoe Shine

Had Jarnail Singh, the journalist who threw a shoe at the home minister today, been a woman, he would never have done that. Empirical evidence (which frankly, dear readers to me is the same as well-crafted studies) suggests that the female of the species is deeply in love with footwear. Ask any modern woman how many pairs of shoes she owns, and the answer will always be in several multiples.

Ask any man about how many pairs he owns, the response (unless its a metrosexual man) will be more about function than form. For a woman, its all about form, even at the cost of function. Which is the only way, there can be any justification for the seven-inch heel that is currently in vogue in the fashion capitals of the west today.

What is it about women and shoes? Why do women feel secure with atleast about 100-plus shoes in their wardrobe? After racking my brains and asking around, an answer eluded me. I would like to ask each one of you, reading this blog, to write in if you have an answer to this vexing question. Ta da.

If I am not wrong, I read, that a lady recently did throw a footwear at a Supreme Court Judge. A slipper, not a shoe. It missed but she insisted that the Court proceedings state that it did hit the desired target.
No further reports appeared to my knowledge.
Now is that ‘ Contempt of Court’ or ‘Contempt of THE Judge’ or ‘Contempt of men’ or ‘Contempt of the Slipper as it had possibly become too old’ ?

It was not any old “shoe”. It was Reebok. I-am-who-I-am Reebok

unfortunate, that a human tragedy which is behind this incident is reduced to this level, i dont find fault with you , its the media which played it again and again and again

btw u did not mention about the model of the foot wear is it high heal or normal one ;-)

    Archana
Please appreciate the fact that Jarnail singh has emancipated the generally reticent “culture” and “educated ” indian from being expressive and emotional by showing them all a way out of their frustration of not being able to influence teh governance ..by at least making their Feeling visible to their breteheren ..an if fact wat a great sacrifice it is to throw a shoe ..men normally are not profligate in their shoe acquistion agenda as i myslef t most may have a max of 5 pairs –formals 2 sports 2 informal 1 ..as compared to women ..yes i agree women are unlikely to throw their shoes ever ..unless for self protection ..they are beyond such expressions of aggression with unknown parties …..

The way i look at it without knowing the complete thoughts of the journalist and the rhetoric between the two. Even a act of disappointment or anger has to be copied from the west. ( ref: Bush ducked a shoe from Iraqi journalist )

What is it that infatuates us to link so much to Iraq or Pakistan or put the west down so much in the media for that matter.

Why cant we link to the positives of the world esp in Media. Why did the solo Indian journalist (Simran from TOI) asking question to Mr. Obama choose to ask a question on Pakistan and Terrorism rather then economic leadership and how India can help improve the economic situation.

For past 10 years we have benefited from Globalization anyways you look at it, may be its time to give back and gain more in return. Have we taken leadership in improving conditions for Indian companies to operate in Nepal, Bangladesh. 2 countries basically have open borders to India but no major Indian company has a big presence there.

I guess you are the only woman who is wondering this view point since most women have chosen not to reply to this blog. Maybe they are more important thoughts and thinking of aligning India with the leaders of the world.

The act of hurling shoe is again proving that we tend to align ourselves with the losers like Iraq and Pakistan.

I am sorry but this is sheer wastage of your writing skills. There is no woman in the world who owns 100 pairs of footwear — I mean woman, and not the plastic dolls.
Coming back to the issue on hand, I know for sure if a woman were in place of Jarnail Singh, whe would not have wasted the opportunity. She would have caught the man by his neck before allowing the footwear to leave some shiney red marks on the cheeks of the people who think politics and governance is such trivial issue as explaining away others suffereins in chaste English.
If you live in Delhi, go to Tilak Vihar to know what it means to be a 1984-riot victim.

Why do peple want to give away shoes which they do not want so aggressively to congress and Chidambaram now a days like this? They will not take. They are used to taking thousands of crores instead. Please do not give anything other than crores to congress and invite trouble.

politics apart, I have a few questions in relation to you question/s-

    1. Will a woman hurl a shoe at a woman?

    2. Will a woman hurl some other woman’s shoe at a woman?

    3. Will a woman hurl some other woman’s shoe at a man?

    4. Will a woman try to stop a thief/burgalar stealing her husband’s valuable watch (sayINR 50000.00) by hurling a shoe at (male/female) thief/burgalar?

Personally I think a woman will happily hurl a shoe at someone only to protect her and/or her family’s honour and dignity.
